CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The new Chevrolet SS will replace the Impala in the Sprint Cup Series in 2013.
Chevrolet announced on Thursday the return of the SS that will hit showroom floors as a 2014 model late in 2013.
The other three manufacturers — Ford (Fusion), Dodge (Charger) and Toyota (Camry) — have introduced their 2013 models as NASCAR goes to a new body style for the first time since the 2007 Car of Tomorrow hit the track.
All four cars will debut in the Daytona 500.
“As a passionate race fan and performance enthusiast, I am thrilled that Chevrolet will deliver a true rear-wheel-drive NASCAR racecar in the SS that is closely linked to the performance sedan that will be available for sale,” said Mark Reuss, president of GM North America.
“The Chevrolet SS is a great example of how GM is able to leverage its global product portfolio to deliver a unique performance experience that extends beyond the track.”
